This experiment was designed to determine whether blockade of the ACTH and corticosterone response during the initial treatment with alcohol (3 consecutive daily injections) interfered with the development of the selective tolerance shown in Fig. 9. These data show that blockade of ACTH corticosterone responses, achieved with a potent CRF antagonist, did not prevent the development of tolerance. We therefore concluded that increases in plasma ACTH/corticosterone levels are not in themselves
