We wanted to determine whether the loss of the HPA axis response that is discussed in the previous figures was specific to alcohol. We therefore compared. the ACTH response to alcohol (3 g/kg, ig) or a neurogenic stress in rats injected with the vehicle or alcohol 7 days earlier. These data show that rats previously exposed to the drug remained. capable of a normal ACTH response to the neurogenic stress, while they lost their response to alcohol.
