This experiment illustrates ACTH and corticosterone released by alcohol (3 g/kg, ig) injected on day of recovery 1, i.e. 24 h after the last of the 3 daily injections. **, P< 0.01 vs. vehicle pretreatment. These data show that the ACTH response was comparable in rats previously treated with alcohol or the vehicle, indicating that by that time, tolerance had not yet taken place. In contrast, tolerance had started to develop for the corticosterone response.
